Nitrogen Fixing Biomass for Aerobic Treatment of Soft Drink Bottling Plant Wastewater
نویسندگان
چکیده
In order to achieve satisfactory biological treatment of wastewater, the wastewater should contain sufficient carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and trace minerals to meet the metabolic requirements for cell growth. For most food processing wastes, nutritional balance is not a problem since there usually is enough carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and trace minerals. However, certain food processing wastewaters, such as those from sugar refineries, tapioca processing, pineapple canning and processing , and soft drink bottling processing, have a deficiency of nitrogen which must be added in proper amounts to achieve appropriate biological treatment of these wastewaters. Modification of the activated sludge process for the treatment of nitrogen-deficient organic wastewaters has been studied (1) (2) in order to achieve effective COD removal, to reduce the additional cost of nitrogen and to minimize the nitrogen concentration in the effluent.

Influence of Different Culture Selection Methods on Polyhydroxyalkanoate Production at Short-term Biomass Enrichment
In this study, the potential of four different culture selection methods under short-term enrichment time (STE) to accumulate PHA-producing bacteria in mixed activated sludge was compared and the most efficient culture selection method was introduced. This means, PHA-producing microbial community was firstly enriched in a sequencing batch bioreactor (SBR) with four different selection methods i...

متن کاملAn Evaluation of Soft-drink Wastewater Treatment by Anaerobic Digestion Process
Series of batch operations were conducted for testing the suitability of anaerobic process for the treatment of soft-drink wastewater. No buffering control substances and biomass growth enhancer were added during the experiment although the wastewater used lacked those substances. Each batch operation resulted in the normal methane yield which was between 0.28 to 0.34 m per kg COD removed. Neve...
